Greetings from Berlin!
Feb. 10th, 2003 08:16 pmExtraordinary. I am not paying for the internet. This is bona fide, absolutely free. It is freer than even at home. I am sitting in t'wonderful State Reference Library of Berlin and there are about 50 snazzy, thin-screen terminals and anyone with a library card can just sit down and start surfing.
Am still stunned.
I haven't been online recently because, amazingly, I have been having a real life. *looks around in amazement* I have been staying with rl friends and not in a hotel. I've been up till the wee hours, chatting face-to-face (*boggles*) and dancing to silly nostalgic 80s songs (plus some Pistols thrown in: I needed to hear 'Pretty Vacant' in homage to Orlando Bloom, hahahah).
Berlin stuns me. I used to live here but haven't been back and the city has, in parts, changed and turned itself into another planet. I walk around with a permanently dropped jaw. When I lived here, the bloody *wall* was still up.
Apart from that, I have been overdosing on museums and library-life. Karl/Dom get a short look-in every now and again but have had to fend on their own, without narrative help from me, their sometimes benign and sometimes downright tormentative, Author.
One more day in this wonderland. Then Paris. What a letdown that will be after Berlin. I don't much like Paris.
OK, time to throw myself onto the wide, freezing boulevards again before I truly faint.
Mahlzeit, alle miteinander.
Am still stunned.
