Am overwhelmed by kind reception of my snippet. Have to go to bed now because, wouldn't you just know it, I feel a terrible cold coming on and tomorrow I'm goin' a-marchin'.

But I should add as an apology to all those kind souls who commented: I aim to *finish* the epic by next week but I don't aim to *post* by next week. Because first it has to go to the beta (yes, *winks at azewewish who convinced me of the benefits) and I can't reasonably expect my angel beta to read the whole shebang in one day. Or even one week, for that matter.
