extreme rps

It is five to seven. I went to sleep at one a.m. I woke up at ten to six. I feel totally zonked but I was too excited about the two games today to continue in bed. My babies are playing! Portugal/UK and Brazil/France.

This World Cup is more intense than any I've had heretofore. It's the rps: slash makes everything more intense.

It is somewhat pathological.

My heart has hardly had a chance to rest from yesterday's match: Germany!!! Argentina! Penalties!!! GERMANY IS THROUGH!!!!!

Oh, and another thing: There are no spoilers in football. Everything is live. Everything happens as you watch.

And there is absolutely no fps. In lotrips, there was always the Tolkien canon hovering reassuringly in the background; I have no idea what role the actual song oeuvre plays for popslashers. Both fandoms, though, have generated secondary (primary?) texts somewhere in there.

Footballers don't generate texts. They are an fps-free zone.

How am I going to survive today?

P.S. T'son's constipation cleared up. Some day I may tell you the details. They haunt me still.

[livejournal.com profile] junalele kindly sent me this link: http://editorial.gettyimages.com/source/search/imageResults.aspx?s=ImagesSearchState|0|0|0|28|0|0|0|1|||0|0|0|71282565|0|0|0|0|2||cristiano+ronaldo|0|0|0|0|0

Which has images of Cristiano Ronaldo playing ball with some little German boys in Portuguese T-shirts (well, I'm assuming they're little German boys). And I got all clucky and maternal again and had the following thoughts:

I am officially in love.

And those little boys: They look so happy!

I now wish that my little son could be those boys.

It is bizarre, I tell you, to share a manly love with one's eight-year-old. "Mama, I like Kaká better than Ronaldinho now; his name is so cool. When can we get the number 8 Kaká shirt? Look, I got the Kaká Panini sticker!"

I am drooling over my son's Panini football sticker book!

Life is so wrong.

The sight of that little boy in the last picture pulling up his T-shirt just kills me.

I am a penalty wreck after England/Portugal. My throat hurts with shouting. I am trying to recuperate because in 25 minutes the whole thing starts all over again with Brazil/France.

By tonight, I will know whether I will get my dream semi-final: Portugal/Brazil.

Missives from the land of Men Who Love Men:

In t'sports shop with t'8-year old:
8: "Mama, I really want a Kaká shirt."
Me: "Oh, look, Portugal shirts, Cristiano Ronaldo shirts. Omg, they are 38 pounds." *is seriously tempted*
Foreign male passers-by, pronouncing it with beautifully crisp vowels and trilled 'r's: "Cristiano Ronaldo."
Two minutes later, more men passing by: "Cristiano Ronaldo."

The mere sight of the number 17 shirt induces men, it seems, to sigh out aloud the name of my pretty sweetie.

This never happened with Orlando Bloom.

In front of t'TV, during penalties:
T'h: "Oh yes! Here comes Ronaldo! He will put the penalty in! He is the best-looking footballer in the world!"
Me: *thinks: 'intriguing'*

The logic seemed to be: He will put the penalty in because he is the "best-looking footballer in the world". T'h is normally quite reserved vis-à-vis mens' looks.
It has to be added that he also liked movie!Legolas. There is a theme here, I just know it.

P.S. *hugs [livejournal.com profile] badgermonkey* :-) Are you going to stop watching now? Come on, you've got to watch Wednesday's game to see who creams those who won against England!

I showed t'h my pic gallery of Cristiano Ronaldo>.

T'h: "He is just so camp, isn't he? He is so gay! Look at him there, look at his look! He is sex on a stick."

I rest my case.

I am sharing manlust with t'h and 't 8-year-old.

What next??

Well, I am not going to get my dream semi-final. Who would have thought it? France have come back from obscuritydom and taken the world by storm, as if the year 1998 had only just passed.

I am sad to see Brazil go but France did play beautifully. I can't feel sorry that they are going through. The French are not as pretty as the Brazilians but their football was more beautiful even than my boys. Zidane, Henry and Ribery are football gods.

So it's all Europe from here on in and my babies (Portugal) are going to have to play France on Wednesday. I fear they will lose.

But after the draining Portugal/England game I just did not have the energy to get into a state all over again about Brazil. I'm happy for France.

pics, as is my wont )

I am distressed that [livejournal.com profile] badgermonkey, my World Cup txt mate of 2002, cannot be happy with me. But thus is the cruelty of the luck of the draw, that is, who gets to play against whom. So it was England wot Portugal beat and not another team. Thus is my Flist riven!!

But Demelza!!! You must be now for both Germany and France! :-)

None of my football icons seems apt. Weepfest!Ronaldo is not appropriate at the moment because he is ecstatically happy. Happy!Kaká is not appropriate because he is dejectedly upset. So let's go with Roger Milla because he is always fine.

And tomorrow, what with no matches to watch, I will finish typing up my C. Ronaldo/Kaká fic!! (It's worse than Viggorli, isn't it, Demelza?)
