flesh on them bones

My bare-bones reccing technique from last night did not work. Nobody seems to have read either the rec or the pimp. Interesting.

So here is Round Two: reccing with a bit of flesh on the bones. Let's see how this will turn out.

Through the night yield no glimmer by rainspots
HP. Unusual, gritty and gorgeous. Malfoy/Goyle, and beautifully done. I love rare pairings but they can be written a bit lazily and sometimes veer too much into crack. This, though, was just stunning. I liked the way lots was left unsaid. I loved the gritty atmosphere she created, with the fag hanging out of Draco's mouth and so forth. The way that Gregory steals up on Draco, and on us. And the way she makes it believable that Draco would choose him and not Blaise. Very unusual and very gorgeous. :-)

I love my warnings: Kinky, squicky. Has rape, blood, murder, infanticide, coprophagy, urophagy, scatology, anolingus, necrophilia, some het, interspecies, angst and rude language. I think that about covers it.

I re-read this a few days ago because I was looking for the words 'grume' and 'gleet'. Because I may want to re-use them for the wraithfic as orc = wraith. This was my first fps and it allowed me, for the first time, to write true evil and the abject. This was liberating, and it was also instructive because, as ever, the thing ran away with me at the end.

ETA I would love to rec some earlier stories but for the purposes of monitoring my Amazing Bones Experiment, I need to be able to access others' feedback via LJ. But! The future beckons! *g*

HP, and it seems that this is one character I just haven't got sick of yet: oh, my Malfoy. And especially as Dudley's physique gets mentioned, and the love that is Crabbe/Goyle... Also, this is Maya! So it's rollicking, fast-paced fun, punch-punch dialogue, breathtaking pacing, and underneath it all that horrible anticipation of angst and trauma. Mainly this is Harry and Draco interacting, with just a fabulously side-splitting plot premise revealed within the first few hundred words.

rodney, why are you not so awesome?

I have now seen most of the series 3 episodes of SGA, and why is the character of Rodney not being developed? Do others get the impression that he seems stuck in a time loop, just again and again going over the same old gestures, attitudes and snippets of speech that he elaborated in series 1 and 2?

Or is it that the less-than-stellar acting abilities of his rps counterpart are starting to crawl to the fore? I'm thinking, oh there goes that thumbs-out gesture again, or, aha he's pulling his mouth again in that 'Rodney' way. It's easier to notice John-rps-counterpart's wooden-ness (and it's so endearing, I forgive him for it; he tried so hard to scream and be tormented in Common Ground, there, there, *pets him*) than the flappiness of Rodney-rps-counterpart but after a while, it is perhaps a flap too far.

Also: the overkill of football rps. And by overkill I mean overdose and whoa. Because, in the days of lotrps, there was a stream of pics and news, sure, but nothing like on this scale. The clubs play a match every week, and sometimes more often. The boys are in the news, like, all the time. And I'm talking mainstream news, breakfast radio, not weird teenie magazines called Sneak or Heat that I bought wearing dark sunshades and hid away in a brown paperbag. Also, actors do not regularly flash their naked thighs or strip off their sweat-sodden tops to reveal their well-muscled pecs but footballers do. And yes, lotrps showered us with canon lurv when there were snoggings and huggings at every fucking premiere but football? Snoggings, huggings, embracings, gropings, weepings every week on mainstream television.

How can my brain take it?

Also, their characters are therefore less mysterious because exposed so much. Every dog and his master chats about the footballers and speculates and has opinions; it's way beyond slash. And even mainstream TV goes slashy and posts (I meant, broadcasts) love odes to Ronaldo/Rooney!

I may well morph into Little Red Riding Hood, if this goes on.

Now there's one hot pairing. Hood/wolf. *growls* "My, what a big ... you've got!" And so forth. Okay, it's het but hey.

I updated my delicious rec site!

My fingers are frayed. I have just updated my fanfic recs at del.icio.us. I moved about 2/3 of the recs on my old recsite to del.icio.us, and now my head hurts. Gads, I hadn't realised quite how much I'd recced over the years! And quite how many links are now broken, LiveJournals deleted, websites disappeared ... so I did searches and dug up stuff, and now all the links work!

Except some people (*glares at badgermonkey*) have managed to take their stuff off almost completely. No trace remains, and what with the old CTB website gone the way of all flesh, I ended up linking to her flocked post about how asking her to send you her fic as an email attachment. Well! If I want to rec, I want to rec! Is it my fault that people take their treasures away?

Also, I have copies of everything I've recced on my hard drive. And filed in print-outs in A4 ringbinders. *g*

So, the stuff I've updated: I worked from early to more recent, so it's nearly all Lord of the Rings Real Person Slash. Ah, the glory days.
