Those of you who reside in t'UK and have primary school-age children will know why I am t'above.

I have spent about an hour today running around to party and costume shops, and then I have spent since six o'clock (and it is now ten past midnight), sewing a green mouse-warrior-monk's habit by hand. Complete with hood. T'h sewed the paws of Matthias the Warrior.

Luckily, t'other son is content with a commercially-bought Harry-Potter outfit.

*falls into bed*

No wonder all those 19th-C. sempstresses all went blind. And died of back-ache.

However, am pleased to note that my Steppstich, Rückstich and even that one with the irresistible name of rückwendlicher Stich are still operational. (There's no way I can use English sewing terminology. Sewing, knitting, baking, pet talk and talk to children under the age of five is irrevocably German for me. *g* Strangely, though, not sex...)

Redwall! Er. No. What's it called? Red something, right? Or something wall?

Will there be pictures of the costumes?

You've not heard of the Redwall series by Brian Jacques?

Er. No, I have heard of it, which is why I was able to identify the series from the character. It's been awhile since I've watched it (I confess to never having read the books but seeing the animated series), so I had a moment of doubting whether I had the title right. :)

It should be right up your alley. I'm sure there must be the odd muskrat in a habit.

Aw, but there is nothing cuter than a Mouse-monk-warrior! And I'll bet your son looks adorable in the costume. Everyone is dressing up over there for some reason- is it Fasching, or whatever it's called?

Heh. I think of my stitches in German, too. Although I've conveniently forgotten anything and everything about crocheting!

Fasching in Germany was in February but here it is now World Book Day. Although I don't know why they call it World Book Day as t'rest of the 'world' doesn't seem to celebrate it. But in the UK all children go to school dressed as their favourite character from a book. So sometimes we luck out and the character is Kalle Blomquist and all you need is a stripy T-shirt and a magnifying glass. But what do you do when t'son says: Matthias from Redwall, and I need furry gloves and a grass-green habit with a hood and long sleeves... Such costumes are not available commercially! T'other son, thank Voldemort, just wants to be Harry Potter.

Crocheting! Now I was always more of a knitter than a crocheter. I hated crocheting. The very word: Häkeln! Argh. Reminds me of Topflappen.

Hm. Except now, that I'm t'Stepford babe, perhaps I will rediscover the lost craft of Häkeln? I could häkel a special rag for shining the sink!!!

I want you to know I blame you for getting the idea of shining all the faucets and pipes in my bathroom. Though I used a microfibre cloth. Everything was very shiny afterwards. Behold the power of microfibre!

Bwuahahahahahh. *bursts out laughing* I would never have thought that I (I!!!) could ever be responsible for anyone ever cleaning anything!

Oh, and microfibre!! Mmm.

Ah, I thought the whole Fasching/Mardi Gras thing was a few weeks ago. Not completely insanse, yay!

But see, aren't you glad for Harry Potter, now? :-)

I don't believe I ever learned how to knit, and I don't believe I will, even though it's all the rage now, apparently. Would rather read porn. But you could make your special sink-shining rage and maybe even sell it on FlyLady's site. Then you could write porn almost full-time!

I sure am relieved that HP has gone commercial. When t'older son went some years ago, the HP books hadn't morphed into films yet but then he decided to go as Ged instead, anyway.

As I said to [livejournal.com profile] sheldrake, knitting is not necessarily antithetical to fandom. Nor to porn. We could knit penis warmers for Viggo. Testes cosies for JRD. Bondage cords for Dom/Billy.

Now I want to go to school dressed as a book character! *reminds self: you are 30 years old*

Tell me German knitting words please! Am currently mired in deep, deep knitting obsession. Fandom? What is that, please?

I think it is probably a mutation of the sink-shining virus.

Zwei rechts, zwei links. Eine Masche fallen lassen. Eine Masche aufnehmen. Abstricken.

We could combine knitting with fandom. E.g. Knit a Weasly-jumper. Knit an Orli shirt. Knit a penis warmer for Viggo.
