So I was tagged by [livejournal.com profile] remainunashamed to do that meme where you list six weird things about yourself.

Why I have been procrastinating over this: I don't like memes like this! I am not a very self-revelatory person although I have got a lot more self-revelatory over my years in LJ. Also, the word 'weird' stumps me. Because what is weird? It assumes some kind of standard of 'normalcy' against which deviation is measured in terms of 'weirdness', and that bothers me on an ethical, ideological and political level. Also, what's weird to one person is unweird to the next. People seem to be posting little quirky habits so that 'weird' gets interpreted by most as 'cute' and 'personal quirk'. I am not a very personal quirky cutey person so this stumps me also. Also, in my youth, people (often girls -- I was at an all-girls school and oh, the social control) often called me 'weird'. That was my persona: kooky. Because I wasn't one of the flirty girls with jewellery and a boyfriend. It made me very unhappy not to have a boyfriend but I inhabited the kooky persona because that's how social control works. Either I was kooky, or I was a daggy outcast. So I have a personal gripe with that kind of stamping of weirdness as well. As you who know me know, I am a big stander-upper for the weird and the rare, the not-so-pretty and the unwanted (Kiran Shah, Dudley Dursley, dementors, John Rhys-Davies, John Noble, Bern Hill, orc/Billy). I try to dig beneath the outer 'weirdness' shell to find the pathos within. But I don't want to go all melodramatic and list pathos-type things about myself!

So I am honestly stumped and feel unable to do this meme. 'tis an aporia. Sorry if I'm being difficult or prissy or over-interpreting some fun LJ thing that somebody probably unthinkingly whipped up. But maybe, Remainunashamed, if you could be more specific in the type of thing you want me to list? I could do what I have for breakfast...?? :-)

*g*

I am loving Main Hoon Na, btw. Did you ever see that film from which they use so many of the lyrics sung by SRK? Kisi something, from 1977?

No, I did wonder where it was from but I always forget to look it up/ask on t'internet! The singing scene is one of my favourite scenes ever. :)

I googled the lyrics of Chand Mera Dil and they're from HUM KISI SE KAM NAHIN (1977), sung by BW legend Rafi Mohd, playback singer who was active in films from the late 1940s to his death 1980. Apparently, the other songs sung by SRK to the chemistry teacher are from this film, too. I really want to see that now!

OMG where is your icon from? Is it a manip?! *staaaaares*

I just looked the film up on Lovefilm, but they don't have it :( They've got a 2002 version film with the same name (remake?) with Amitabh and Ajay "Deugan" (Devgan?) in it instead. Bah.

This icon is the only evidence I have that there is anyone out there, having slashy thoughts about BW, besides us two. I found the picture about two years ago after googling all over the place. There was no credit. I have no idea who made it. In the large version on my hard drive you can tell that it is manipped. I can't remember the url, either! Grr. I uploaded the large version at some point, I will look through my Memories at some point.

And talking about teh slash: I thought there were quite a few moments in Main Hoon Na! Ram/Lakshman's 'brotherly' love (sort of like the 'nephew-like' love of movie!Achilles/Patrocles, yeah, right). But how does one make screencaps?? There are moments of thigh touching and soulful looks, and they sing at each other all about pyaar!!!

I know, yaar, I know. It's v slashy. :)

If you have Power-DVD, it's pretty easy to make screencaps. You just hit pause and press "c" to take a picture. It then saves it to a folder somewhere - you can specify where it saves to by checking something in a menu somewhere... um, sorry. I forget. :(

It's a Windows DVD player thingy. :) I'm afraid my computery knowledge is not extensive and practically non-existent for Macs. Sorry. But maybe if you play around, looking at menus you'll find something. You could always ctrl+print screen, does that work on a Mac?

Thank you! I looked around for a comparable function and that totally worked! Whee, screencap mania, here I come! Mmm, Ram/Lakshman.

I just watched the entire bonus DVD of Main Hoon Naa, including the trivia quiz. Am clearly deranged.

I scored 4-7 and was told to 'watch the movie again' because I didn't yet have 'the feel'. 1111

Sometimes (= quite often) I'm frustrated by language: is it not enough that there's a weird meme (pun intended) going around; now I have to figure out at least two words: kooky and daggy. Wtf? 'Kooky' makes me think of chickens, I've no idea why.

As a side note, I agree with the social control thing: girls/women control each other at least as much, if not more, as men do.

Also, I count your Flylady fascination weird but then again, I've never been much of a cleaning woman, despite earning some money as one myself. I still blame you for the one and only attack of shining the faucets in my bathroom. O_o

Oh, if Flylady counts as weird, I could fill 600 points, not just 6! *gg*

Kooky sounds a bit like the German word for chick. Is it this that makes you think of clucking? Kooky means clownish, odd, jolly. Daggy is Australian for nerdy.
