Okay, it is official:
sheldrake is evil.
She may look all sugar and spice and as if ice cream wouldn't melt in her mouth, but she is
evil temptation personified. Primarily personified in the form of evil temptress Stargate Atlantis DVD-packs of entire series one. Which I find myself compelled to watch at all times, even during bright daylight.
This is when I'm not watching
isiscolo's episodes of series two, that is.
I am getting better at identifying which episodes I'm really going to like. I read the summaries on Gateworld (not caring one whit about spoilers) and try to connect what I read to the fics that I remember, and which episodes seem to have inspired most fics. And yes, my fellow slash writers with their unerring sense of the slashy and the wondy, never lead me astray (unlike the cuckoo who 'rates' the episodes on Gateworld, according to action or quality or whoknowswhat). My rating radar is solely according to how angsted or cute McKay is going to be in any given episodes, how often McKay is going to be kissing somebody or talking about kissing somebody, how often we are going to hear Zelenka speak Czech, and how much screentime we are going to get with Dr Carson Beckett rolling his r's and saying 'Rrrodney' (I keep thinking how he's a wizard, omg!!, he
so is.)
Also, it's quite good if the action quotient is low. Because I am not an action monger.
I have even grown to like the women, Teyla and Elizabeth Weir and Miko with the enormous glasses. Except not that horrible German one with the pinched face. Too close to home.
Zelenka looks like a very good Canadian friend of ours. Sheppard looks like Harrison Ford.
I am totally mary-sueing McKay. Conversely, I am also desiring McKay. I find I can do both. Now, there is no term in fandom for the 'you' part of a duo (or is there? Heh,
cathexys probably knows one). Because in my mind, when writing, there is the person I
am, my cathected site, the mary-sue (not capitalised here so as not to confuse it with the Mary Sue wot is an entity hated by fandom large and small -- your honour, she was innocent!) -- and then there is the person whom the mary-sue
wants. The mary-sue character is the 'I', and the one who is desired by the mary-sue, the 'other' (to borrow a bit of post-modern kit), is the 'you'. Although in practice in most fics, both of these tend to be a 'he' and a 'he'.
Also, I am back with my original OTP for this fandom. McKay! Zelenka!
julad!
And you know what, I am getting excited about
het. Because McKay is such a deliciously het kinda guy. April Bingham! Omg, I want to read or write April Bingham! Are there any fics about April Bingham? The blonde girl whom McKay kissed when still at school? With the blonde short hair? And why does nobody ever explain why McKay ever switched his lust from short and blonde to sticky-uppy and brown in all those countless McKay/Sheppard scenarios???
I bet April Bingham looks just like Dominic Monaghan.
I am getting way sucked into this (sutured, even, to be even more po-mo, whee, go me). Because McKay is just too sexy. I can now totally see why four fifths of the fandom goes apeshit over this man. And I cannot understand the strangely prevailing notion that somehow McKay is 'terrible with women'. McKay is
brilliant with women! He's got
me wrapped round his little pinkie! And round his dick as well, speaking of pink. Except when I'm him and looking out through his big round eyes at the world.
On second thoughts, I lust for him too much. He's not really my mary-sue, I keep seeing him rather than seeing via him. I wonder who
is my mary-sue in SGA, then. Hm.
Must keep watching. To find out. Oh, only 29 episodes or so to go. Hah. A cinch.
ETA: Zelenka. I bet my mary-sue is Zelenka. I learned Czech for a year at uni, after all. Although I strain in vain to understand what he babbles on about, I get the odd prefix. Is this translated anywhere??
ETA2: Actually, I keep pulling my mouth into McKay distortions and muttering 'goodgood' under my breath. Possibly I am McKay after all??? Ack.
