Well, I am now on t'hubster's laptop and using his dial-up modem. And lo and behold! I am able to post millions of words and do anything I want! (I did this in locked-to-myself posts. I do not want to inflict the gory details on all and sundry.)

So that confirms it: it is not 9-11. It is not the internet, in fact (wrong pairing!). It is my f****$%*& computer.

*stomps off to ring the ntl broadband people yet again*

Hm. I can always download DP to a disk (a disk!!! one of those may be collecting dust somewhere down the back of my desk), carry it downstairs to the laptop -- o no, I can't,the laptop has no disk slot.

Well, that's that then. I am locked out!!

And now I've pulled out a sort of stick thingy at the side of the laptop and can't get it back in... Argh.

I had not realised to what extent my enjoyment of LJ and the online life depends on my ability to post more than 32 words at a time.
